Reading homework
Children in Owls class will be asked to read or share books together with an adult at least 4 times a week.
A reading journal that is used both in school and at home will show reading progress. Please make sure reading folders with journals are in book bags every day. Children are encouraged to write or draw about the books they read.
All children will start bringing home story books to share at home. Once we have learnt a set of phonemes, some children will bring home books to practise their own reading skills of segmenting and blending. Please see the video below for support with segmenting and blending.
Spellings and phonics homework
Children will be asked to practise a phoneme or phonemes each week, words that follow a pattern or that are tricky words are sent alongside this for practise. A video showing the models and games we may use in school is uploaded onto google classroom on a Sunday. The children will be given an informal test of these practise words or letters on a Friday.
