Writing

This week we are going to be writing our own version of the Epic Poem, Beowulf. Obviously ours is not going to be 3,000 lines long though! Here is the plan for the week.

Monday: Using the summary you wrote about the story of Beowulf, start planning how you could turn that into a poem.

Tuesday: Continue to plan your summary poem, making sure you have a rhythm to your poem and that you have included your similes and metaphors from last week.

Wednesday: Write your poem.

Thursday: Editing time. Make sure you read through your poem and each time you read through, focus on a different key feature, edit in blue pencil please.

Friday: Present! Write up you edited version of your poem and present it as an old piece of writing. You may want to stain the paper with cold tea to make it look like aged parchment and possible draw some pictures around the outside.

Key features to include in your poem.

- Beautiful Brington letters

- Correct punctuation (full stops, capital letters, exclamation marks etc.)

- Similes

- Metaphor

- Poem organised into stanzas

- Poem has a rhythm

- It makes sense

- It summarises the story of Beowulf

I look forward to seeing your finished poem on the blogs.
