For Science today, we are going to be looking at what happens to wax when it is heated. We will also be looking at the importance of recycling old materials. For this you will need OLD crayons (the ones that have snapped, got no paper wrapping and you never use because they're covered fluff), silicon or tin foil moulds, an oven and a responsible adult to supervise you.
Watch the video below and follow the instructions! (if you don't have access to the materials you can still watch the video as it will give you all the information you need)
1. What happened to the wax?
2. Have the old rubbish crayons been improved by carrying out this process?
3.How have we recycled these crayons?
4.Why was recycling these crayons important?
Task: can you design a machine that will carry out crayon recycling for us? Think about all the steps you have completed, how can the machine carry these out. It must be safe for children to use.
BE CAREFUL: MELTED WAX IS VERY HOT, DON'T BURN YOURSELVES!!!!! ADULT SUPERVISION REQUIRED
