Together, striving to be the best that we can be!

Today, we're going to have a go at the task we usually do first thing on a Wednesday morning. Below, you will find a picture to inspire some writing. You can write anything you like - a description, a story, a news report, a letter, a diary, a persuasive piece... Make sure you decide before you start so you know who your audience is and the kind of features you will need to include.

In your lined book or on your computer, give yourself at least half an hour to write AT LENGTH. I would like you to try to include at least three fronted adverbials (marked with a comma) and also think carefully about using pronouns and alternative nouns / noun phrases to avoid repetition.

When you have finished writing, you need to proofread and edit your draft. Remember our usual routine:

  • Read the whole piece aloud to make sure it makes sense (check tense and person are the same all the way through)
  • Check capital letters - start of sentences, proper nouns and 'I'
  • Range of punctuation - full stops, commas, question marks, exclamation marks, apostrophes, inverted commas
  • Spelling
  • Can you add in adjectives or adverbs?
  • Can you replace at least three words with better and more ambitious examples?
  • Can you reorder the words in any of your sentences for impact?

I'd really love to read your writing if you can get it to me - a photograph on the blog or an e-mail to Mr Farrell (who will forward it on to me) would be brilliant.
